Old Window DIY Project

I have been wanting to convert my old farm, 6 pane window into some cool thing like you would see on Pinterest for ages!! I got this one from a friends been and it was in pretty rough shape. So to start with so I had to fix it up to make it strong enough to handle the transformation.

I took all the glass panes out and sanded the entire frame and used wood glue to ensure that all the middle peices were secure.

I then used silicone to seal all the glass panes that I was keeping into the frame. I kept two panes and turned the other into cork boards or chalk boards

I bought all my supplies at micheals and used wood that was laying around my boyfriends house.

For the remaing four sections my boyfriend cut plywood to fit in the back and then glued it in place.

I wanted two panels to be cork so we cut out the cork and glued it to the front of the wood

For the other two I wanted chalkboard so we sanded the plywood and put a couple coats of chalkboard paint on it.

The last two panes are backed with pretty scrap book paper just held in with a couple nails. I could have modge lodged them on but I didn’t have any and didn’t want to deal with what would happen if it didn’t work. And for now this is working perfectly!!

I cant believe that I put this off for so long! It was much easier than I thought it would be! Hopefully I can find some more windows like this to make more!

I am loving how it looks in my room! And it helps keep my organized!

Looking back- we used rough plywood and just sanded it for the chalkboard. I may redo it and add something smoother on top and it is a little difficult to write on.
